Nle choppa age is part of Memphis-based underground rapper collective Shotta Fam, founded by late rapper Scrap Magic and comprised of various local artists. Their music can often be likened to that of gangsta hip hop acts like YoungBoy Never Broke Again.

Choppa launched his musical career in 2012 under his mother Angelita Potts’ management. Influenced by Lil Baby and Roddy Ricch, his songs incorporate both gangsta rap and melodic beats for maximum impact – these have proven popular on social media.

He first came to public awareness via his collective’s cypher-style song titled “No Chorus Pt 3,” where his opening verse and dance moves made an immediate impression online, sparking numerous YouTube reaction videos. Later that same year, Cottonwood was released as his debut extended play release.

“Narrow Road,” Choppa’s second video, shows off a more reflective side. The lyrics deal with topics related to street life, perseverance and personal growth; featuring guest verse from Lil Baby who delivers an impressive verse; its production is elegant with trap drums and an atmospheric synth piano accompaniment; making this track one of his finest collaborations to date – along with “Self Esteem,” where they seamlessly fuse hip-hop and R&B into an exquisite track.
