For people who plan to apply for jobs, of course, there are rules. There are do’s and don’ts to ensure your job acceptance. This article is made for you in order to create a quality resume that will spark the interest of HR Managers. Taking advice on the do’s and don’ts when you are applying for a job is a huge advantage. Do not just put unreliable details and contents on your work resume that you haven’t checked yet because this can be a downfall for your job application. These are some of the dos and don’ts that can be your guide when you plan to apply for a spot.

DOs

  1.  Apply Honesty.

Of course, honesty is the best policy, as they always say. And it is indeed true. When applying for your desired job, you have to put honest content on your resume and not go overboard with it. Truly explain your potential, your skills, and your education. Do not lie about your abilities because when you will be accepted, and the boss can see that you can’t really prove what you said at the job interview, you might see yourself in a difficult position, or worse, you might earn your boss’s disappointment. And above all, do not fabricate your resume, do not put lies regarding your life just so you can be accepted. Genuineness is the best thing that you can wear. Apply honesty in your work resume, and, apply actual honesty too when you are being interviewed by HR Managers.

  1. List your potential and skills.

One of the things that recruiters crucially look for in an applicant is their abilities. Therefore, including your skills and talents in your resume is a must. State your skills in a detailed and humble manner, so in this way, there might be a high chance that you will be accepted. Some recruiters specifically look for particular skills, and putting your potential skills in your resume might match what they look for in an employee. But, remember, as stated in the first number, apply honesty. Do not exaggerate your potential for this may cause a turn-off.  Speak about your capabilities, the things that you can prove to do, and the skills that you already have in store.

  1. Proofread your resume.

Proofreading your resume is important, and is highly recommended. After making your work resume, carefully check it for grammatical errors, and check if you have the right formatting and spelling. Possibilities of typo errors can always be present, therefore, make sure you cautiously scan your whole resume thoroughly so you will avoid submitting error resumes, and you can also avoid unacceptance from your job. Constructing and showing your faultless resume to HR Managers can be a major turn-on.

DON’Ts

  1. Do not over-impress yourself.

Same as being honest, do not present yourself in exaggeration too. Make sure to always be genuine when explaining your work experiences, your education, and the skills you possess. Being real can take you to many places– you can get hired for displaying true emotions and for proving your said capabilities.

When you are someone who has been unemployed for periods of time in your career, this can sometimes cause discouragement, but not if you present it to your recruiter properly. When explaining gaps in resume, do not make it look like you had such an unproductive life during the years of your unemployment. State your learnings, and the improvements you did to your skills.

  1. Do not make a dull resume, but do not put exaggerated designs too.

By not making a dull resume, this doesn’t mean that you put designs on your work resume. This means that you should make your resume with quality content, and required details. So in this way, you don’t have a dull resume. If you are someone who is a graphic designer, it is good that you put graphic designs on your work resume. However, do not choose such flashy designs and unmatched colors for this can cause distractions and can lower your chance of acceptance.

  1. Do not wear inappropriate clothes.

Of course, this is a must. When you get a call for a job interview, one of the first common things you might worry about is “What will I wear?”. Do not ever wear such revealing clothes and clothes exceeding in glamors such as sleeveless tops, short bottoms, gowns, and clothes with so much fashion and colors. Present yourself in a conservative, minimal, and in professional way. You can wear suits with ties, a dress, blouse and slacks, polos, etc.

Conclusion

By following these three do’s and three don’ts, you can have guidance on how to do your work resumes and job interviews properly. Just be neat, and be honest. Assess and list down your capabilities and talents. If you are not yet sure of what type of skills you hold, take time to discover them within you.  Do not be afraid of rejections because rejections can mean that a better place is meant to be for you.
